As an American who is concerned about the direction our nation is heading,  I feel it is important to keep this primary about the issues and about who will be the BEST president to lead this great nation in these dangerous times.  Because I strongly believe that the race of the candidates should not be an issue and that injecting race into this campaign will only serve to divide democratic and independent voters in the general election, I encourage you to read and sign one or both of the petitions below and post your comments on this issue so that this sensitive topic can be discussed and defused.

Petition Barack Obama to Stop Playing the Race Card

As a patriotic American, I am excited about the wonderful energy generated by the Democratic candidates for President.  However, I am disappointed that Barack Obama injected race into this election.

I believe that it is 100% appropriate for any candidate, white, black or Hispanic, male or female, to compare him or herself to historical figures, such as the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and John F. Kennedy.  Similarly, I believe it is 100% appropriate for a candidate to evoke the names of these great leaders for the purpose of inspiring people to vote for him/her.

However, I also believe that it is 100% appropriate, that if you do so, other candidates should be free to draw distinctions between you and the historical figures whose names you invoke to promote your candidacy.  I believe it is NOT racist, or derogatory toward Dr. King, for a candidate to say that Mr. Obama's accomplishments do not match those of Dr. King's.  I also believe it is NOT racist to argue that Mr. Obama's position on the war in Iraq has been inconsistent by calling his claims of consistent opposition "a fairy tale."  I believe it is wrong for Mr. Obama to suggest otherwise and call upon him to apologize to America for playing the race card and to return to a discussion of the issues.

Petition Hillary Clinton to Stop Playing the Race Card

As a patriotic American, I am excited about the wonderful energy generated by the Democratic candidates for President.  However, I am disappointed that Hillary Clinton injected race into this election.

However, I also believe that it is NOT appropriate for Ms. Clinton to criticize Mr. Obama by saying that he is no Dr. King because that is disrespectful to Dr. King as well as to all Black Americans.  I also believe that it is racist for the Clinton campaign to challenge Mr. Obama's claim that he has consistently opposed the war in Iraq by calling this claim "a fairy tale" because it was really meant to suggest that a Black President is a fairy tale.  Therefore, I call upon Ms. Clinton to apologize to America for playing the race card and to return to a discussion of the issues.
